Consultations
Making an Appointment
GP Referral – All consultations with our Surgeons now require a referral from your General Practitioner, including for cosmetic surgery. Please arrange this prior to booking your consultation. If your GP has sent us a copy of the referral, our team will get in touch with you to arrange a time. Alternatively, you can make an appointment for your consultation in Townsville or Mackay on (07) 4725 8400 and Rockhampton or Cairns on 1300 227 111.
Cosmetic or medical surgery – Following new guidelines for cosmetic surgery from July 2023, our team will need to assess whether your surgery is likely to be medical or cosmetic, based on whether there is a medical need for it. Please provide our team with as much information about any health requirements for your surgery as possible to help us book your consultation correctly. Eligibility for medical surgery is determined by Medicare. For more information on these changes and eligibility for medical surgery, visit this page of our website.
Medical patients – If you are likely to meet medical requirements for surgery (final determination of this can only be made by your surgeon), you may only require one pre-surgical Consultation at our practice, which our team will book for you.
Cosmetic patients – If your surgery is likely to be cosmetic (or partially cosmetic), you are required to have two Consultations, a minimum of one week apart. Our team will be able to arrange these for you.
If you decide you want to change or cancel your consultation, you will need to let us know 48 hours prior otherwise you will incur a cancellation fee.
Your Consultation
In order to confirm your appointment, you will be required to pay in full beforehand and complete an information form. Both of these can be done online. We will send you a link to do this via SMS in the lead-up to your appointment.
Allow approximately one hour for all consultations, except skin lesion appointments, which will take around 30 minutes.
Cosmetic patients –
Cosmetic patients require two consultations. At the first, you will undertake an in-person assessment for Body Dysmorphia, a condition causing intense focus, shame and anxiety over perceived body defects. You will also have a family and medical history check and be given the paperwork for your possible surgery to go through it with our practitioner, discussing the procedure and associated risks and recovery requirements.
At your second consultation, you will have a physical assessment to determine the extent of Surgery necessary and have further discussion of the procedure and any concerns or questions your may have. The results of your Body Dysmorphia assessment will also be discussed. Following this consultation, you will see a Cosmetic Consultant regarding possible surgical dates and to provide a quote for your chosen procedure.
Medical patients –
Medical patients only require one consultation with our Surgeon, where you will be assessed for suitability for surgery and have a detailed discussion of your procedure. Following this, you will see a Cosmetic Consultant regarding possible surgical dates and to provide a quote for your chosen procedure.
